IN SHORT

A virtual CFO is a qualified finance leader who works for your business part-time, usually on a monthly retainer, and is responsible for cash, controls, reporting and financial decisions. A fractional CFO is the same role with more days in the CFO seat. Regi Tom Antony & Associates, Chartered Accountants in Kochi since 1997, provides virtual and fractional CFO services and an outsourced finance office to businesses in India, the GCC, Africa, the UK, the US and Australia.

01 · THE ROLE

What does a virtual CFO actually do?

Most growing businesses have a bookkeeper and an accountant, but nobody looking at the business as a whole: the cash in eight weeks, which customers and products make money, and what the numbers say about next year. A virtual CFO does that job part-time, for a fixed monthly retainer, with a finance office behind it that produces the numbers on time.

Controller

Books closed on time, reconciliations, GST and TDS, and approvals and controls that stop errors and fraud.

Operational CFO

Inside the business: purchasing, stock, pricing, margins by product and customer, supplier terms and the systems that run them.

Strategic CFO

Budgets, cash planning, banking and funding, board and investor reporting, and the three-year growth plan.

03 · HOW IT WORKS

How our virtual CFO service works: a decision, not a report

Before each monthly review, the owner receives a one-page CFO Decision Brief: one number to watch, one assumption that could break the plan, one risk nobody is saying out loud, and one decision to take in the room. The MIS pack is the evidence behind it.

09 · COMMON QUESTIONS

Virtual CFO: common questions

?What is the difference between a virtual CFO and an accountant?+
An accountant records what happened. A virtual CFO uses those numbers to manage cash, set budgets, control spending and plan growth, and is responsible for the finance office that produces them.
?Is a fractional CFO the same as a virtual CFO?+
Broadly, yes. "Fractional CFO" is the usual term in the US, UK and the Gulf and often means more days in the CFO seat; "virtual CFO" is common in India and Australia.
?Can you work with a company based in the UAE, Saudi Arabia or Africa?+
Yes. We run the finance office, reporting and controls across both countries; local statutory filings and audits are done with locally licensed firms where the law requires.
?Who releases the payments?+
You do. Our workflows prepare and track approvals and payment-ready batches; you or your authorised signatories release them in the bank.
?Can our statutory auditor also be our virtual CFO?+
No. Under section 144 of the Companies Act, 2013, a company's auditor cannot provide accounting, management or outsourced financial services to it. If we audit your company, we cannot also run its finance function.
?How is a virtual CFO priced?+
As a fixed monthly retainer set by scope: revenue, the number of entities and countries, how much of the finance office we run, and the days needed in the CFO seat. We agree the scope after a short diagnostic and set it out in a written proposal.
?How is a virtual CFO different from an outsourced accounting firm?+
An outsourced accounting firm keeps the books. A virtual CFO is accountable for what the books mean: cash planning, controls, budgets, banking and the decisions that follow. We provide both, so the same team that closes the books prepares the Decision Brief.
?Do you provide virtual CFO services in Kochi and Kerala?+
Yes. Our office is in Kakkanad, Kochi, and we work with businesses across Kerala in person and with clients elsewhere in India and abroad remotely.
?How quickly can we start?+
Usually within two weeks of the diagnostic conversation. Most clients receive their first monthly pack and Decision Brief in the second month.
